An Easy Way to Cut Out Sugar

Here is some interesting information I found on an Arrowhead bottle of water.

Did you know that a typical 12-ounce soda contains the equivalent of 10 tsp. of sugar???

If you replace one soda daily with water instead, you can cut 3,650 tsp. of sugar a year from your diet. That's a lot of sugar when you look at it in the long run.

And in my mind, if you cut sugar out from soda, then at least you can replace it with more meaningful sugar...like candy!

Will Everyone Just Get Off Jessica Simpson's Back!

If you haven't heard or seen it by now, there is a picture (actually several) of Jessica Simpson performing at a chili cook-off hosted by a Florida radio station this past weekend. And as everyone has mentioned, the pictures are not flattering...well, at least up to typical Hollywood standards. And all I can say is, give the girl a break.

Yes, her "mom jeans" and double animal print belt made for a terrible outfit, but so what if she has gained weight. She is human, right?

It wasn't too long ago that most men on the planet were fantasizing about her body in The Dukes of Hazzard movie in which she played Daisy Duke. (And when women were wishing they had her body.) Quite frankly, I still think a majority of women would rather have her current figure than their own. And besides, she is a protein shake and trainer away from having that body again, if she wants it.
In a world full of teenage girls with eating disorders, I really think her weight shouldn't be made such an issue.
Her fashion sense(or lack there of), on the other hand, is fair game!

Where Should You Keep Your Toothbrush?

On a recent episode of Live with Regis and Kelly, Dr. Greg Yapalater talked all about germs, including the best place to keep your toothbrush.

Any guesses???

Here are your choices:

a. The medicine cabinet
b. On top of the toilet
c. On the bathroom sink
d. Near a window

If you said d)near a window, you can give yourself a pat on the back for a job well done. Apparently the UV rays from the sun can help fight the germs that might grow on your toothbrush.

Interesting...

Lost...finally getting somewhere

So I committed 3 whole hours of my life tonight to watch the recap and premiere of Lost. I am not a total follower of the show. In fact, I didn't really watch much of the first season because I thought it was lame. But I feel like the show is almost getting somewhere. And I am waiting for the series finale when I can say, "Oh, now I get it." Even though I probably won't say that.

But I will say tonight's episode was pretty good. Things are finally getting explained. I do look forward to the show having a positive or happy tone, someday. I mean, the doom and gloom can get to a girl after 3 hours! Now if we could just find out what Sawyer whispered to Kate before he jumped out of the helicopter!

Revolutionary Road...two thumbs down!

I am not usually mean or ill-spirited with my writing but I feel compelled to tell you of my disliking of a new movie that is being promoted like the next best thing since sliced bread. I am by no-means a film critic, so take my analysis for what it is worth.

Over the holiday I saw Revolutionary Road...I know, it's not out yet. What can I say, I know people in high places.

There were six of us that watched it together (three married couples). We all had the same feelings about the movie. "I'm sorry, that was terrible," is what one blurted out as the credits rolled.

As were we watching the movie, another comment was, " this movie reminds me of American Beauty in its tone and pace," as he made a circular motion with his arm to gesture that the movie needed to move along. And it is no shocker that it did remind all of us of American Beauty because Sam Mendes, Kate Winslet's husband and director of this film, also directed American Beauty.

There were excellent acting performances in the movie by all the cast members, including Leo Dicaprio and Kate Winslet. (And I do hate to bag on the movie because I do really like Kate Winslet and am thrilled she won the Golden Globe last night for Best Actress.)

But the excellent acting just can't carry the slow pace and awful story that is the movie.

A couple in a bad marriage, big whoop. The timing of the release of this movie is all wrong. People right now are worried about their jobs, their retirement, the economy. Five years ago we might have had different feelings for a guy who has a great paying job and a beautiful home in the suburbs. If I had been watching this film in a theater, I would have walked out.

Here was the kicker for me...the main couple (played by DiCaprio and Winslet) had so many arguments, discussions and breakfasts without their kids anywhere in sight. Anyone who has two young kids knows it is impossible to find time to talk to your spouse (especially during the day) and yet this couple seemed to find it all the time. They wanted more out of life...they wanted to be "special." I won't say much else because I don't want to spoil the movie, but all in all, it is a depressing and negative outlook on marriage. (Like the divorce rate isn't enough to depress a married couple these days!)

I will say there was one good thing that came out of the movie for the six of us...we all recognized how happy we are in our marriages and how our "normal" lives are just fine with us.

My recommendation for Revolutionary Road...skip it!

Happy New Year...Belated!

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and is having a fantastic new year...so far.

The holidays were rather crazy for my family and I so I will admit I am suffering from a bit of writer's block. Not to mention, it took me nearly a month to decorate the house, so I can only imagine how long it is going to take to un-decorate the house.

Do you ever notice how bummed you feel after the holidays are over? It's almost like the day after your wedding...obviously you are not bummed about your spouse (well, at least you better not be!) but you are just a little bummed that the day your planned for months and dreamed of your whole life is over. See, the holidays are not quite like the day after your wedding.

Happy January!
